David Carson is Professor Emeritus of Marketing in the Department of Marketing, Entrepreneurship and Strategy at the University of Ulster. His research interests lie in marketing for SMEs and quality of marketing in services industries, especially in tourism. He has published widely in both of these areas. He has wide business experience both in consultancy and directorship roles including contemporary companies such as Walt Disney World, Stenaline Ferries Europe, easyJet, Belfast Harbours, Titanic Quarter Belfast, as well as advice to numerous SMEs in a variety of industries. Much of the advice centres on strategy and marketing implementation. He is currently researching quality of service delivery in tourism with specific reference to sustainable tourism.
He was editor (23 years) of the European Journal of Marketing, a category one international academic journal with a world-wide circulation; President of the Academy of Marketing UK, the foremost representative body of marketing academics in the UK and Ireland; Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM), a member of the CIM Academic Senate.
David Carson has been a Visiting Professor at numerous universities, for example, Monash Business School, Melbourne, the leading business school in Australia; similarly, University of Auckland, New Zealand, and University of Bahrain. He currently has invitations to be Visiting Professor at Universities of Adelaide, Australia and Otago, New Zealand. He has been External Examiner for PhDs in over twenty universities in the UK, Ireland and elsewhere.
He is currently Chair of ‘Seaview Enterprises’, a company by guarantee which promotes and develops cross community co-operation and collaboration through sport and community projects in North Belfast. He is also a member of the development team for the ‘Giant’s Park’ a multi-purpose cross community sports complex planned for the Lough Foreshore in Belfast.
